2022 Recap

~ #blog #personal

Goodness! What a year it has been so far!

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog so I thought I would kick off with an update to explain where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.

I’m also keen to do another recap about the projects I’ve been working on recently because I’ve had a lot of ideas and not a lot of time to work on them or blog about them.

Anyway. On with the recap.

Zurich

At the start of this year, I packed all of my possessions into a self-storage box in London and headed to Zurich for a few months of site-seeing, skiing and remote working.

I had a blast and was privileged enough to keep my job at the amazing Tessian. The timezone difference wasn’t all that bad and I successfully lead the front-end development of a major project whilst abroad.

In January I visited a fair few ski resorts in the Swiss-German Alps, and at the beginning of February even got to go to Zermatt with a few colleagues who joined me for a week and a bit.

I also visited a few towns around Switzerland including Rapperswil-Jona, Lucerne, Chur, Thusis, and they were all completely beautiful. Hopefully one day I can post all of the photos on the images section of my blog!

I met lots of lovely people in Zurich and I’ll remember them fondly and hopefully return soon!

Before leaving Zurich, I met someone truly special who I spent a lot of time with this summer, as she decided to follow me back to the UK and live with me for 3 months. Sadly she’s now back in Switzerland but we still visit. Whilst she was here she planted a herb garden, which I am completely over-the-moon about. I’ve not met someone so kind, honest and thoughtful as her.

Bristol

After spending an incredible 3 months in Switzerland, my 90-day VISA-free stay came to an end and I headed home where I would carry out the next part of “plan 2022”.

I had been wanting to move out of London to try something new for a while, and I decided this year would be the year to do it. Bristol was one of the obvious choices, especially as my younger brother is living here and it’s close to Bath where my youngest brother is studying.

With my new destination in mind, I started looking for places to rent and found one very early on and put an offer in straight away. Happily I got the place and have been living here since.

Bristol is a lovely city and any day now I’ll have a thriving social life, but for now I can’t complain that my brothers are round the corner. Plus, some friends from uni live here and we hang out sometimes, which is nice.

I really do miss hanging out with my friends in London, but it’s only 2h away so I’m grateful to have the option to go and visit them.

Summer

This summer was a whirlwind of activity for me as we traveled to many different parts of the country.

Notably we most recently went to the Edinburgh Fringe festival followed by a camper van road-trip to the Isle of Skye. We also visited Loch Ness, the Cairngorms, London and Cardiff as well as Weston and Bath. There was also a mad dash to a wedding being held in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland that involved taking 21 trains in a single weekend. We started traveling at 7am on the Friday, got to the wedding a bit late at 10:30pm on the Saturday.

Autumn

As autumn darkens the skies and browns the leaves on the trees, I’ve feel like I’ve finally landed in Bristol and I’m now very ready to meet new people.

I’ve finally got my living space arranged in a way I like (although there are still a lot of books towering on my desk). And I’m looking at the possibility of someone staying with me as a lodger for a few weeks.

Recapped.

Anyway, thought I would write a blog to keep this dying medium of my personal blog alive.

Next I’d like to start recapping the projects I dabbled in this year and maybe even start logging my progress.

Thanks for reading!
