I think I’ll spend a good chunk of my day learning about how Urbit intends to compete with today’s centralised app ecosystems.

I have some ideas of what to make on top of Urbit but I’d like to see some examples of Urbit apps that are open to users outside of Urbit itself.

I’m going to take a bit easier today - i.e. no long bike rides!

I didn’t really stick to my plan yesterday but I think that’s fine, although I’m still not sure if I even need to plan things like that.

I have actually got plans today, starting with a webinar over at Evernym which should be interesting. Then I’m meeting up with a friend for the first time in a few months!

Before then, I’m hiding in my bedroom so that the cleaner can come.

I’ve got a few things to get done before my plans later, like shopping for a new desk chair to replace my current (dining!) chair. (It looks like we’ll be stuck working at home for a while longer, so I’d like to make some improvements.)

I also want to learn a bit more Hoon. So far I can program a Fibonacci sequence generator so I’m making progress. Today I will continue learning how lists work https://urbit.org/docs/tutorials/hoon/lists.

Oh no, I played games…

plan:
 ~ 11: unpack, urbit
~ 12: eat, schedule meeting for later
 ~ 13: bike ride
 ~ 18: call, play games
 ~ 19: cook, eat
 ~ 21: blog, urbit

My landlord is telling me to water my plants. I wish she would let me kill my plants in peace. ffs.

I got back from my bike ride about 30mins ago. I ended up going ~22miles and it took me >3h ;_;

My legs are in need of recovery.

My plan has changed…

plan:
 ~ 11: unpack, urbit
~ 12: eat, schedule meeting for later
 ~ 13: bike ride
 ~ 18: shopping
 ~ 19: call
 ~ 20: eat
 ~ 21: blog, urbit

Food eaten. Time for a bike ride :)

Normally, in this sort of situation I would resort to planning out my day, trying to give it some kind of structure.

But thinking back, this hasn’t ever been able to replace even the most unstructured days where I’ve been in contact with people.

Even in my job, a lot of days seem unstructured or at least irregular - not conforming to any kind of regular shape. Despite this, I still enjoy my day. There are at least some opportunities for interaction with people, even if it is virtual.

So today, I’m going to keep the structure simple and flexible, but also plan to meet up with people. Maybe even today if I can manage it (I already have an idea of who to poke to see if they’re up for meeting up).

plan:
 ~ 11: unpack, urbit
~ 12: eat, schedule meeting for later
 ~ 13: bike ride
 ~ 15: shopping
 ~ 16: blog, urbit
 ~ 17: call
 ~ 18: eat

It’s my first day back in London, having spent 2 months at home living at my mum’s place.

Right now I’m feeling a bit nervous about keeping a routine and more importantly maintaining social contact with people.

Yesterday my dad drove me to London via a supermarket (thanks, Dad!) I’ve got a load of food in, so I don’t have to worry about that for a bit.

I’m halfway through my first week of holiday I’ve taken since lockdown began. I did a bit more studying last night - I’m learning how to program for Urbit, which I honestly think could become the future of personal computing (although, it’s possible that only developers will adopt it in the short-term or even long-term - see Unix).

I’m excited to use this time to learn and relax and I’ve scheduled a few meet-ups with my friends already. Hopefully this weekend we can have a bigger (distanced) get-together.

Anyway, it’s good to be back. I’m feeling hopeful.

I’ve got a bit of spare time before I need to pack things up so I’ll use that time to learn a bit more about Hoon.

Today I am finally moving back to London 🎉

I will do a blog on how I’ve spent my lockdown so far, but for now I will just say that I’m excited to get back and finally socialise with friends!
